To show: The graph of the following three equations are concurrent. And hence find the coordinates of the point of intersection.

Expert Solution & Answer
Check Mark

Answer to Problem 7PSB

The point of intersection is (4,2) .

Explanation of Solution

Given:

The given equation of lines are:

  2x+3y=2 (1)y=2x10 (2)3xy=14 (3)

Calculation:

The point of intersection of equation (1) & (2) is calculated as:

  y+10=23y [put equation(1)=equation(2)]y=2x=23(2)2x=4

Therefore the point of intersection (1) & (2) is (4,2) .

The point of intersection of equation (2) & (3) is calculated as:

  2x10=3x14 [put equation(2)=equation(3)]x=4y=3(4)14 [substitute x=4 in equation (3)]y=2

Therefore the point of intersection (2) & (3) is (4,2) .

The point of intersection of equation (1) & (3) is calculated as:

  (2x+9x)+(3y3y)=2+42 [multiplying  equation(3) by 3 and added to equation(1)]x=4y=3(4)14 [substitute x=4 in equation (3)]y=2

Therefore the point of intersection (1) & (3) is (4,2) .

As the above solution proved that the graph of three lines are concurrent, therefore the point of intersection of the three lines is (4,2) .
