Antimicrobial agents are commonly used to treat microbial infections. Antimicrobial agents differ in their mode of action, including, inhibition of cell wall, inhibition of protein and nucleic acid synthesis, and inhibition of essential metabolite synthesis. Anantimicrobial drug compound should merely target the pathogenic microorganisms and should not cause any harm to the host system.
