The spinal cord is a long, tubular structure made up of nervous tissue. It contains the cerebrospinal fluid. The spinal cord is protected by the bony spinal column. The spinal cord is made up of 31 segments- 8 cervical, 12 thoracic, 5 lumbar, 5 sacral and 1 coccygeal.
