Concept Introduction:
An ore is basically rock or sediment containing enough minerals having economically important elements such as metals. These metals can be extracted from the ore. The ores are extracted from the earth by the process called mining followed by refining to extract the valuable element.
The cost of mining of an ore depends on the concentration of mineral or metal in it and the form of its occurrence. Metals ores can be oxides, sulfides or silicates. Several geological processes are responsible for formation of ore bodies. The process of formation of ore is called ore genesis.
