Chapter 12, Problem 14MC
Summary Introduction

Introduction:

Cell division is the process by which cell divided to give two daughter cells. The process of cell division includes distribution of genetic material (nuclear division) and cytoplasmic (cytokinesis) contents to new daughter cells. Mitosis and Meiosis are the two nuclear division in which genetic material is transferred to daughter nucleus resulting various ploidy. There are several steps involved in both mitosis and meiosis which share similarities.

Prophase is the stage of mitosis characterized by the a. physical seperation of sister chromatids b. appearance of visible chromosomes c. occurrence of cytokinesis d. alignment of chromosomes at center of cell
1) What phase of mitosis is this?  Answer: 2) What is the indicated structure 1? select one. a. chromosome b. chromosome with two sister chromatids c. centrioles/centrosome d. spindle fibres e. metaphase plate     3)If the diploid (2n) number of this cell is 8 how many chromosomes are present? 4) If the diploid (2n) number of this cell is 8 how many sister chromatids are present? 5) If the diploid (2n) number of this cell is 8 how many homologous pairs are present?
Match the following events with the stages in mitosis:                                                             chromosomal materials condenses to form compact chromosomes.                                                             alignment of chromosomes along the equator or plate with microtubules attached to poles                                                             sister chromatids for each chromosome split and move to opposite poles                                                             chromosomes are clustered at each of the poles and give way to cytokinesis A. telophase B. anaphase C. metaphase D. prophase
