Chapter 11.11, Problem 43P

(a)

Summary Introduction

Interpretation: Considering Problem 28 of this chapter and supposing that two new machines, A and B have to be located in the shop, such that A has 18,18,14,1 and 16 as the expected numbers of loadings being transported to the five existing machines, respectively and B has 14,16,3,15 and 12 as the expected numbers of loadings being transported, respectively. Furthermore supposing that there are a minimum of two loads per hour on an average being transported between the new machines and assuming a rectilinear distance measurement, the problem of determining the most appropriate locations of the new machines as a linear program needs to be worked out.

Concept Introduction: When the differences between the x and y coordinates are added, then it gives the Recti-linear distance between the two points along an orthogonal path.

Summary Introduction

Interpretation: Considering Problem 28 of this chapter and supposing that two new machines, A and B has to be located in the shop, and machine A and B has 18,18,14,1 and 16 and 14,16,3,15 and 12 respectively as the expected numbers of loadings being transported to the existing five machines, and that there are a minimum of two loads per hour on an average transported between the new machines, assuming rectilinear distance measurements, the solution of problem formulated in part (a), using computerized linear programming code, needs to be given.

Concept Introduction: When the differences between the x and y coordinates are added, then it gives the Recti-linear distance between the two points along an orthogonal path.
