Introduction:

Chromatin can be defined as a complex, threadlike structure made up of DNA and proteins foundin eukaryotes. An important function of chromatin is to package very long DNA molecules into amore compact, denser structure. The packaging of the DNA helps not only to protect the genetic information from damage but also to regulate the transcription process. Proteins involved in the formation of chromatin are mainly histoneproteins. Histones are basic in nature and therefore readily interact with acidic DNA. Chromatinis classified into two types – heterochromatin and euchromatin.
