Explanation of Solution

Introduction:

The flute produces sound because of vibration in the air column. A violin can produce sound because of vibration of the strings attached. A kettle drum has a membrane which vibrates to produce sound.

There are various musical instruments which can make sounds in one of three ways. The flute is a wind instrument and consists of an air column. Vibration of air is produced in the air column and sound is produced. Pitch is controlled by varying the length of this air column and by placing the fingers over the holes in it.

There are string instruments like guitar and violin which produces sound as the string vibrates. Musicians pluck the string of use a bow to pluck the string and as the string vibrates sound are produced. Each string is tuned to a certain pitch.

With beating instruments such as kettledrum, sound is produced by beating or striking the surface using a stick or hand. The kettledrum can be tuned to various pitches by loosening or tightening the surface of the drumhead.

Conclusion:

Thus, flute, violin and kettledrum each produces sound.
