In 1953 Watson and Crick proposed the double helical structure of DNA, but this was not the starting of the DNA related studies. In the past many scientists had performed their studies on the genetic material and gave various hypothesis and theories.

Introduction:

Various scientists studied the structure of DNA individually. The scientists proposed various theories based on their studies. Some studies are said to be the mile stone in the further studies of DNA structures, which made the study of chemical composition of DNA easier to successive scientists.
