Hub:
- The components of LAN are connected by HUB.
- Hub is used to transmit the same signal in all the ports except one which is used to receive the signal.
- Multiple ports share the same bandwidth.
- In hub, small number of ports can be used to connect devices.
- Hub uses half-duplex transmission mode in which, the communication is two directional but the channel can be accessed by both connected devices alternatively.
- Many networking components are connected by hub.
Switch:
- Switch is used to connect LANs into a single group.
- Multiple ports can use different rate of bandwidth.
- More number of ports can be used to connect devices.
- Switch uses full-duplex transmission mode in which, the communication is bidirectional. So the channel can be accessed by both connected devices simultaneously.
- Switch can also be termed as bridge as it connects multiple ports which routes the packet at data link layer.
