Concept introduction:
Resonance structure represents the delocalization of electrons within the molecule. When bonds in a molecule can be expressed by different Lewis structures then resonance structures are used to depict the bonding in that molecule. It has the same placement of atoms but different locations of bonding and lone pairs of electrons.
This is why the resonance structure is not the proper depictions of the structure of a molecule. It is expressed by several contributing structure and that is known as resonance hybrid structure.
