When does the reduction in the dimensions occur?
Expert Solution
Step 1
Reducing of dimensions is done in the following conditions.
- Reducing of dimensions of a workpiece is known as machining.
- Machining the workpiece to required dimensions.
- Machining can be turning, step-turning, shaping, slotting, planning, grinding, e.t.c.
- In casting, during solidification of molten metal in the mould, the metal may shrink causing it in a reduction in dimensions.
- During the assembling of two components, if they both fit smoothly then one of the mating part dimensions are reduced accordingly.
