Question

What are the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of environmental technology, solar energy?

Expert Solution
Step 1: Strengths

1) Energy availability: Sun is the main source solar energy. Thus, we have unlimited free energy.

2) Environmental Friendly: In the process of collection and storage of solar energy to generate electricity, there is no carbon emission.

Use of solar energy reduces carbon emission. Because solar energy doesn't release any harmful gas while it reduces dependence on other sources which release harmful gases and green house gases.

Solar panels can be recycled.

3) Ease of usage: Solar energy is collected by solar panels which can be installed anywhere like rooftops.

4) Less overall Cost: It seems expensive while installation but after installation, the running cost is very low. Low maintenance cost and Tax incentives. In long run it has cost benefits.

5) Versatile: Solar Power can be used in various applications. E.g. Household usage to industrial usage, in Agriculture solar dryers and Solar pumps can be used. From refrigerating to water heating. With Lot of application in various sectors, Solar energy is versatile in nature.
