Adler was one of the first psychologists who stressed on the use of encouragement as a therapeutic technique. He believed that encouragement was at the core of human development. Adler believed that man by nature is a social being and possesses social interest and needs to be a part of a social unit like family and society. He stressed that when humans lose their social interest pathology can arise which can be treated with therapeutic use of encouragement.
