Inquisition in Spain was established in 1478. To uphold Catholic orthodoxy in the kingdoms, it was founded. Additionally, the Spanish monarchs had direct authority over it. It wasn't completely done away with until 1834.
As a court that dealt with religious heresy, the Inquisition only had authority over baptised Christians. However, Spain and its territories did not enjoy religious liberty for a significant portion of their history. Therefore in reality, the Inquisition had authority over all subjects of the king.
