Since 1519, Mexico had been suffering under the colonial rule of Spain. After Napoleon invaded Spain, the situation in the Spanish colonies started changing. Most of the citizens started questioning the authority of the Spanish King and began to revolt against Spanish rule. In Mexico, Miguel Hidalgo, a catholic priest, spoke against Spain's tyrannical government and started calling for Mexico's Independence.
