In the first decade of the twentieth century, the United States enjoyed prosperity and hope. A large number of people started to live beyond their capabilities as they grew more reliant on borrowing to purchase modern luxuries like freezers, radios, as well as automobiles. But, after the crash of the stock market in the year 1929 and the widespread collapse of the country's banking structure, prosperity became quickly replaced by deprivation & optimism by hopelessness.
