As a result of continuous Germanic invasions, the Roman empire was weakened, and the Roman military faced several drafts which affected the glory and might of Rome. The empire was separated into two the western Roman empire and the Eastern Roman empire.

The eastern half of the empire got the name Byzantine empire after the capital Byzantium, and the Western Roman Empire fell in 476. Still, the Byzantine empire continued to dominate the region till 1453.
