Informal Organization
An informal organization is defined by the personal
relationships established among employees. The
interaction of employees is based on friendship and
camaraderie and since there is no formal or binding
relationship among them, relationships can be dissolved
at any time. The organization is not bound by authority
and responsibility, thus, there is no pressure among the members to meet or follow any set of
rules. Informal structures, however, are not conducive to policies and may oppose regulations
and changes.
Both of these organizations serve crucial roles since the formal structure clearly outlines
the tasks and responsibilities of the employees while the informal structure helps the company
develop its own corporate culture out of the relationships among employees. These provide
balance and promote a smooth flow of operations in the firm in the long run.
