Question

A DC motor, or direct current motor, is an electrical machine that converts electrical energy into mechanical energy through the creation of a magnetic field powered by direct current. When a DC motor is energized, it generates a magnetic field in its stator. This magnetic field interacts with magnets on the rotor, causing it to rotate. The free-body diagram of the rotor is shown in the following figure. The key components of a DC motor include an electric resistance (R) and an electric inductance (L).

Considering the voltage (V) as the input and the rotor disk speed (theta) as the output, the transfer function of this system can be obtained as

  • Obtain the expression of the system response to a step input V=4.9 v
  • Calculate the steady state response of this system to the above step input and fill the value to the following blank.
  • The electric resistance of common metal materials is proportional to the operating temperature, if R is made of metal, will the system respond faster at a higher temperature? Please explain with necessary calculations.
