In the study, 338 patients with irritable bowel syndrome (a possible precursor to CD) were randomly assigned to either receive steroids immediately or to wait until they developed further CD symptoms. Data were collected a year after randomization. In addition to evaluating whether CD developed, data on race, blood tests measurements (continuous), and the number of visits to the doctor in the last year were also collected.
