ABC Ltd, manufacturers of alcoholic drinks have been heavily hit by the
COVID-19 pandemic. Their major sales over the years have come from
demands from customers during occasions like weddings, funerals, naming
ceremonies, clubs, and other large social gatherings. The company could sell
over twenty thousand bottles of alcoholic drinks in a week.
Following the initial ban on social gatherings and the current restrictions on
large gatherings, demand has reduced drastically to just two thousand bottles a
week.
The company has been forced to temporary lay off about 70% of their total
workforce and even lack the financial strength to give them any stimulus
packages.
The Management met the union leaders and ordered them to inform their
members to stay home until further notice. One vocal member of the unions,
Mr. Wilson informed Management of the unfair treatment meted out to the staff,
i.e no financial packages, no support whatsoever and demanded from
Management to support the staff.
The CEO was infuriated by the action of the member and asked the HR
Manager to prepare his sack letter with no benefits. The other union leaders all
got very angry and walked out of the meeting.
The few staff left are also on sit down strike and the company is almost
collapsing.
