Discuss the imoact of the Dred Scott decision.
In the year 1857, the Supreme Court delivered the Dred Scott judgment, declaring that Dred Scott, a slave individual, was not entitled to freedom on the basis that he resided in a free state. As Scott was a slave, thus the judge essentially ruled that he should not be considered a citizen and therefore not eligible to file a lawsuit in court. It also argued that Congress lacked the authority to ban slavery in any of the territories. Slavery was a heated issue at the moment in the United States.
