Causes of work-stress: The causes explained below related to work-stress cause multiple health issues including headaches, high blood pressure, digestion problems, depression, loss of appetite, increased usage of alcohol and drugs, lower productivity, and much more. All these symptoms lead to ill-health, sleeplessness, and less concentration at work leading to more work stress. The following are a few of the causes of work stress:
- Work stress usually causes due to extended working hours at the workplace, where the employees will not be having any other option, rather than, to stay back at the office and complete the given activities. Regular work which usually exceeds the normal activities and additional responsibilities and ad-hoc activities, which an employee is expected to deliver forces them to extend their working hours and even work late nights if they have to complete the work
- Heavy workload, is always a concern and one of the major causes which result in work stress. Employees are assigned with more than usual work which results in more tension and they tend to spend more time and involving themselves in the completion of the activities
- Most of the time, employees stay back and show such dedication to finish the work, by extending their regular working hours, is due to job insecurity and the fear of losing jobs. Denial to take additional work or poor performance and lower productivity, often give chance to employers to threaten employees with job loss. Hence, they work out of fear of losing jobs
- Conflicts with co-workers and even the managers and bosses is also a quite common issue, these days, where the employees tend to involve in uninvited troubles due to disagreements at the workplace, which causes work stress
