"Only through thoughtful examination of disciplined Discourse can one break free from the prison of limited thought and speech." (Arnett pg. 35). In the article Communicating Resilience: A Discursive Leadership Perspective, it supports Discursive leadership views leadership as more of an art rather than a science, one that is contested and inventive (Torres pg 7). Both the Arnett book and Torres article support the idea that Discursive leadership and the idea it moves beyond the traditional focus on the psychological aspects of leadership, such as the cognitive and affective variables of leaders.
