Chapter 19
Before returning to his house, Bilbo stops at Elrond’s house to tell him about the adventure. When he reaches his home, he sees it is being auctioned by his cousins because they have presumed he is dead. The story ends with Bilbo settled once again in his hobbit-hole, comfortable and snug, thinking back on his great adventure.
The novel ends by reiterating the theme of friendship as Bilbo tells his friends that they can always visit him at Bag End. He refuses the gold saying he does not require it, Bilbo finally returns to his hobbit-hole where he leads a long and comfortable life.
