Chapter 4
Landon’s father has left for Washington DC, and life becomes normal for him again. He sneaks out at night to go to the cemetery with friends. Since the day of the dance, Landon and Jamie have rarely met or spoken to each other. One day, Jamie calls Landon asking him if he can go to her place. Although hesitant initially, Landon agrees to meet her so that he does not have to speak to her in school with everyone around. He fears that his friends will tease him if he’s seen speaking to Jamie.
Landon goes over to Jamie’s house, and they sit on her porch. Jamie asks Landon whether he’d be willing to play the part of Tom Thornton in this year’s The Christmas Angel, taking over for Eddie Jones, who has refused to play the part. Eddie stammers and he fears that he will be mocked by everyone. Jamie wants the production to be perfect for the sake of her father, whom she loves deeply. Jamie begins to cry while talking about the sacrifices her father has made for her. Moved by Jamie’s tears, Landon agrees to play the role.
