2 Bullying in Chula Vista is the case study I have chosen. An analysis of bullying, a form of school violence that has become increasingly prevalent in recent years, is presented in this case study. As part of the work being conducted by the Chula Vista Police Department, they are focusing on school violence as well as a bullying prevention program that has been awarded national funding to address what is regarded as one of the most underreported types of violence in schools. Most school shootings have been attributed to bullying. The program aims to reduce bullying through education, training, and support for administrators, teachers, and students. It also focuses on identifying and addressing the root causes of bullying, such as lack of parental involvement and ineffective school policies. A case study examining bullying at targeted schools demonstrates how survey research can be applied to assist police, schools, and the community in addressing the problem more effectively in a collective manner (Jones, 2011). The study found that bullying was significantly associated with school violence and that interventions should focus on both the school environment and the student's home environment. The study also highlighted the importance of early intervention and prevention measures. According to the scanning phase, surveys designed to determine the level of safety children feel in school are not conducted frequently enough knowing that bullying occurs daily. To accurately measure the level of bullying being experienced, it was determined that it was necessary to directly survey the children on a more frequent basis, as well as to survey adults regarding their reactions and viewpoints regarding the issue. Information gathered during the analysis phase will assist in determining at what frequency bullying is occurring, where the incidents are taking place, and whether physical or verbal bullying is occurring. As part of the survey provided, kids would be able to select different areas where bullying occurs, as well as write in the location and the time of day in which it occurs. A survey was conducted to determine
3 which students were considered frequent victims and for how long. The survey results were used to develop a plan of action to reduce bullying, including providing more adult supervision at high-risk times and locations. The school also implemented a system of reporting incidents, so that any case of bullying could be addressed quickly. To identify and prevent bullying, each school created a Bullying Prevention Committee, which included faculty, parents, and the family center coordinator. As a result, each school was able to create a plan that addressed the needs of the students while also ensuring their safety. A survey was conducted during the assessment phase, and the data retrieved was compared with the data obtained during the assessment phase. As the survey did not reach the same students or faculty every year due to students changing schools and teachers relocating, it was still able to assess the climate and make adjustments as necessary. Surveys provided us with the best means of determining the viability of the implementation of our responses and whether the problem had changed or shifted (Kuluko, 2011). Surveys also helped us to identify any areas of improvement and allowed us to track our progress over time. This enabled us to better target our interventions and measure their effectiveness. Surveys also enabled us to identify any new trends or potential issues which may arise in the future. During such a situation, the role of a crime analyst would be front and center as they collect and develop strategies. It is their responsibility to determine the frequency of bullying, the time of day, and the location of the bullying. By doing so, school administrators will be able to focus their attention on the trouble spots so that bullying incidents can be reduced. The teachers would be able to patrol these areas consistently and unpredictably just as officers patrol certain parts of a neighborhood to display a constant and unpredictable presence. This can help to deter bullies and create an atmosphere of trust and respect among students. Furthermore, school

4 administrators should be trained to identify and address any instances of bullying. Finally, they should be proactive in educating students about the importance of treating others with respect. Initially, there appears to be a difference between the data sets presented here and those that are currently being developed. Although one of these data sets is a specific kind of data that involves numbers, while the other is survey-based data that includes thoughts and feelings, both data sets provide information that can be gathered and manipulated to indicate whether there has been an increase or decrease in data. By assessing the frequency with which bullying occurs and how often it occurs at different locations, bullying can be quantified. In addition, surveys can be used to investigate the severity of bullying incidents, the degree of fear and anxiety experienced by victims, and the impact that bullying has had on them. Additionally, surveys can be useful in identifying the underlying causes of bullying as well as in developing strategies for preventing it. These surveys can provide a comprehensive picture of bullying in each area, allowing authorities to better target their interventions and assess their effectiveness. Surveys can also help to identify high-risk areas for bullying so that more resources can be devoted to those areas. My recommendation from this specific case study would be to increase the frequency with which surveys are conducted. According to the report, the surveys that are being conducted do not reach the same students, and schools are still able to assess the environment and make changes accordingly. If a student's bullying continues for an entire year before an assessment can be performed, then that student endured a year of bullying before the issue can be addressed. Therefore, more frequent surveys are needed to ensure that the schools can promptly address bullying and other school climate issues. This will provide a better learning environment for all students. Additionally, surveys can help to identify any areas of weakness in the school's policies or procedures.
