Elaborate and Evaluate Assignment: MAED 5353 Prompt Response Name Heidi Woodall Current position (if applicable) Teacher If currently teaching, grade level: 3 rd Grade If currently teaching, subject(s): Math/Science Teaching certification (if applicable): EC-6 Generalist ESL Certification Prompt Response Which learning module did you complete? Bivariate Data and Analysis Attach your (handwritten) homework to the end of this document. Check you work against the given answers. What was your biggest learning or aha! from this module? Explain. The importance of looking at different variables at see how they correlate with one another. What is still confusing or was difficult about the learning in this module? Explain. There wasn’t anything I feel this time around that wasn’t too confusing. What can you apply from this module to your classroom? Be specific and draw from the standards. (This response should be fairly lengthy, e.g., 500 words). In this module, Professor Kader approached the idea of looking at multiple variables by using the Davinci picture of a man. When looking at the picture they started an activity that compared the height of a person to their arm span in centimeters. The plotted the different data points using a scatter plots. From there they the quadrants were created using the mean of the arm length and the height. They created the line to represent the height = arm span, and then worked to find the SSE to compare the different lines for potential fit. When creating these lines, they determined which line best fit the data. Something I really enjoyed seeing is the way this can help in a real-world situation. In the video we were shown that they were using the bones of various African American males from varying years to determine potential height based on the femur and tibia. When looking at the data he was able to see how height only varied by a couple of centimeters. They’re wanting to know more about what causes this such as socioeconomic status, culture, food, etc that caused these men to not grow as much. 1 3/21/24 19:20 a3/p3
While this type of activity is more advanced than my 3 rd graders, I see the importance of comparing data that has multiple data points. 2 3/21/24 19:20 a3/p3
