IFSP * Birth to age 3 are eligible for services. Some state will go after the age of 3. * This is a plan is centered around the family concerns for their child and provide in the home. * IFSPs are covered by special education law, or the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) * For this plan there will be a team of people that includes- The parents, other family members, advocates outside, early interventionist, and professionals who conducted the assessments. * This supports the child by giving them timelines, methods, and plans to measure their progress. Both IEP and IFSP * Both these plans need a written consent. * Both require measurable goals and timelines. * Family is the first to start the process. IEP * This plan is started any time between the ages of 3-21. * Children who meet the 13 eligibility criteria will have accommodations and modifications to their education needs. * IEPs are covered by special education law, or the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) in part B to help support children in public schools who have a disability.
* There is a IEP team who will get together every 6 months or quarter to talk about progress. This IEP team consist of the parents, general teacher, special education teacher, District representative, and a school psychologist. * A IEP supports the needs of the child by giving them the tools to be successful in school. 504 plans * 504 plans help children who need more support in school. This plan doesn't need be in special education but children who need support in class. * The FAPE requirements under Section 504 only apply to students who currently have a mental or physical impairment and it interferes with learning their academics. * The people who are responsible to create such a plan would be the parents, general teacher, other school staff members, doctor, and therapist. * 504 plans are covered by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. This is a civil rights act not a education one. FAPE (Free Apported Public Education) is what helps children with disability get a free education. * The 504 plan supports the students by having accommodations and modifications to their learning environment.
