Briefly describe how this article contributes to your knowledge of your group’s social issue or problem. What did you learn about your group presentation topic from the article? How does this article inform or represent what scholars in the field have learned about your topic? How does this article inform or represent what scholars in the field believe about your topic? Science, Technology Engineering, and Mathematics (Completed by Minh) This article shed light on the impact from the alteration of neurochemicals to Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) . It starts with describing what ASD is and the impact it had during the past decades, providing necessary context for our topic. They also emphasize that by studying and understanding the neurochemical changes correlation with neurobehavioral and neurodevelopmental conditions, they can get researchers a better look into Autism spectrum disorder. Social Sciences (Completed by Casper) This article informs us that scholars in the field of autism studies recognize the complexity of the topic and advocate for an interdisciplinary approach. They also emphasize the historical and sociocultural dimensions of autism, acknowledging that societal perceptions play a significant role. Furthermore, they encourage research that goes beyond academic gains and actively seeks to improve the lives of those 2 Page #

Business and Communications (Completed by Khalil) This article informs us on the impact of employment that people with autism face, and how the disorder affects their ability to achieve certain job titles and how this affects us in the real world. They focus on the percentages of how people with autism are likely to be successful within certain businesses. Moreover, they describe the impacts of being within a work environment on those with a mental disorder, and what its purpose is within their lives. Humanities and Arts (Completed by Hannah) This article informs us that the media, as a tool of communication, has cultural power whereby autism’s portrayal as a disability is predicted by notions of normality and underpinned by ableist ideology. Because of this, people are sometimes subjected to the representation of disability as a pitied tragedy. This implies that autistic people may be subjected to discrimination for having the mental disability. Health Professions (Completed by Kylie) This article informs us that some of the symptoms of autism are aggression and irritability. The aim of the trial discussed in the article is to try and minimize these symptoms and help with aggression or self-injuries in autistic people. The participants of the trial were a large age-range of autistic adults shown to have aggression or irritability. The participants randomly received either a placebo or the medication, then given the opposite. Results were collected for multiple quantifiable behavioral tests at baseline, then after the time period of receiving either the placebo or medication. The results were that the individuals that received the medication had better results on some of the tests, while some of the other tests showed little to no difference. Discipline comparison : At this point you have engaged in a systematic multidisciplinary analysis - each relevant discipline has been explored independently. Synthesize the multidisciplinary examination by comparing and contrasting the basic frameworks, methodologies, and uses of evidence. Identify the common ground. What are the major similarities and differences that you observe between the five disciplines? (Completed by Hannah) (Completed by Casper) The five disciplines—Health Professions, STEM, Business, Social Science, and Arts and Humanities—encompass diverse fields of study, each with its unique frameworks, methodologies, and uses of evidence. Let's compare and contrast these disciplines: Frameworks: Health Professions: Primarily focuses on understanding and promoting health and well-being through medical, nursing, and allied 3 Page #

STEM: Emphasizes scientific principles, experimentation, and the application of quantitative methods in understanding the natural and technological world. Business: Centrally concerned with organizational structures, management, finance, and market dynamics. Social Science: Investigates human behavior, societies, and institutions using qualitative and quantitative research methods. Arts and Humanities: Explores human culture, creativity, and expression through literature, philosophy, history, and the arts. Methodologies: Health Professions: Relies on clinical trials, medical imaging, and patient data for evidence-based practice. STEM: Utilizes experiments, statistical analyses, and mathematical models to understand natural phenomena. Business: Employs market research, financial analysis, and case studies to inform decision-making. Social Science: Engages in surveys, interviews, observations, and statistical analyses to study human behavior and society. Arts and Humanities: Utilizes textual analysis, interpretation, and cultural criticism to explore human expression and meaning. Uses of Evidence: Health Professions: Focuses on clinical evidence, patient outcomes, and epidemiological data to guide medical practices. STEM: Relies on empirical evidence, experimentation, and peer-reviewed research to advance scientific knowledge. Business: Draws on market trends, financial reports, and case studies to inform strategic decisions. 4 Page #
#GEA1 Common Ground Chart Template Social Science: Uses empirical evidence to understand and address social phenomena, policy-making, and societal issues. Arts and Humanities: Utilizes textual and cultural evidence to interpret and analyze human expression and historical context. 4. Common Ground: Interdisciplinary Collaboration: All disciplines increasingly recognize the value of collaboration across disciplinary boundaries to address complex challenges. Empirical Inquiry: Many disciplines, including STEM, Health Professions, and Social Science, share a reliance on empirical evidence, though the types of evidence and methodologies vary. 5. Major Differences: Nature of Inquiry: STEM disciplines often emphasize objective, empirical inquiry, while Arts and Humanities may involve more subjective interpretation. Application of Knowledge: Business focuses on practical applications for organizational success, while Social Science may emphasize policy implications. Human vs. Natural Systems: Social Science and Arts and Humanities focus on human systems, whereas STEM disciplines also explore natural systems. Discipline synthesis: Often fundamental contradictions between disciplines regarding methodology and assumptions lead to divergent insights and implications. Attempt to integrate at least three of the disciplinary perspectives into a new coherent, more inclusive framework. What are the most relevant disciplines to your group’s social issue or problem? How is your understanding of the social issue or problem altered by using this interdisciplinary form of analysis? In what ways is your knowledge enhanced by interdisciplinary perspectives? #GEA1 Common Ground Chart Template Out of the three disciplines that we’ve studied so far, Social Science relates to our topic the most. Looking at our topic from the perspective of Social Science shows us how autistic people interact with others in society and how society treats them. This is the most ‘straightforward’ way of looking at our topic, the most surface level. The core of our topic is how people with autism interact with others, in what ways, and why. The very basics of that are just interactions of autistic people with others, which can be researched through Social Science. To better understand our topic, we can take a look in Art & Humanities or Health Professions. With these topics, we can understand how autistic people are viewed by others in society, or perhaps how we can detect the symptoms of autism and what medicine can be used to minimize the effects of it. While social science may help us understand how autistic people view the world around them, Arts & Humanities also shed light on how others view them and how society as a whole treats such people. And finally, with health professions, we learn how to identify who’s suffering from autism and how we can minimize its effects on an individual. Most related to topic: Social Sciences, Arts & Humanities, Health Professions 6 Page #
