1 Part 1: Oral History Project Plan STUDENT NAME Department of Social Science, UMGC WMST 200: Introduction to Women’s Studies: Women and Society Dr. Vasiliki Georgoulas-Sherry November 2, 2021
2 Part 1: Oral History Project Plan For my Oral History Project, I have chosen to interview one of my sisters, Melissa Stallings. She is an African American woman with Dominican decedents. Melissa was born and raised in Washington, D.C. during her teenage years. Melissa is happily married with two children and is Chief Program Officer at Byte Back. Melissa Stallings is the oldest out of the three daughters; I’m the youngest. The way we both grew up and our childhood was vastly different, especially with the age gap and experiences we’ve faced in society. She would make a good interview subject for the Women’s Studies Oral History because of our different backgrounds and experiences both of us have endured as women. She has faced many challenges and has experienced a lot, compared to what I’ve had or will probably ever experience due to our differences. Thus far, she has shared countless stories and experiences with me. Some of which I can relate to, by also being a woman of color. I plan to conduct this interview by phone by Wednesday, November 10, 2021. If I’m not able to interview her via phone, I will conduct the interview face-to-face. At the beginning of our interview, I will start by sharing personal experiences and asking her about her experiences. During our interview, I will ask her to discuss how being an African American and Latina woman has affected her personal life and professional life. Also, get her to share situations where she was racially profiled or treated differently because of her gender and racial/ethnic background. Lastly, we will talk through the differences she has faced as a woman and the societal roles women are obligated to endure.
