Continuous Variable A continuous variable involves a comprehensive description of calculations that characterize the distribution of values in terms of their location, dispersion, and shape, utilizing the measures of centrality. The continuous variable from the General Social Survey I choose was the respondent income in consistent dollars. I choose to a histogram to represent my data, because it is a metric global variable. The mean for Respondent Income variable was $34,554.85. The median, or middle, amount of income was $24,017.85 The mode, or the income that occurred most often, was $33,255. The standard deviation was $33,386.514.
Categorical Variable Since I choose income as my continuous variable, Respondents Highest Degree Earned was fitting as my categorical variable. A breakdown of educational attainment reveals that 330 individuals have completed less than high school, 1,269 hold a high school diploma, 186 have completed junior college, 472 possess a bachelor's degree, and 281 have earned a graduate degree. The standard deviation, measured at 1.235, serves as a suitable indicator of variation t (Frankfort-Nachmias, Nachmias, & Deward, 2020). A bar graph was used to show the highest degree completed. It shows that on average most people have successful completed high school. From a social standpoint, it seems education has an impact on earned income. This poses the idea that subsidizing the educational system could potentially be a solution for enhancing the attainment of the highest degree.
