2 Displaying Data Results This paper aims to utilize the High School Longitudinal Study dataset for creating a suitable visual representation of both categorical and continuous variables. Additionally, a concise discussion on the potential societal impact associated with the dataset and the variables' means will be presented. The categorical data being displayed is T1: Students Sex. The variable of student gender is a nominal variable. Since, nominal variables cannot be represented by mathematical operations, the data can be visually displayed in a pie chart. The caterogies are shown as parts that make up 100% of the total (Frankfort-Nachmias & Leon-Guerrero, 2020). Pie charts are very simplistic. Data is illustrated in specific portions. The pie chart above displays there were more male respondents than female respondents.
3 To show the continuous data, the highest level of education was utilized. The mean of the T1 Parent 1: Highest level of education was 2.99. This number represents the number of parents who have varying levels of education. An effective means of displaying this information is through a bar graph, which illustrates distinctions in respondent numbers for each education level and their relationships. A bar graph plots the numerical values for categorical data (Yi, 2021). Analyzing the highest education level of students' parents can provide insights into potential academic support systems and areas where interventions may be beneficial. It's important to note that while parental education level can provide valuable insights, it is just one of many factors influencing a student's academic success.
