(p.290-292) Congrss passed more legislation in behalf of womens rights, the ERA rank of supporters now included the League of women voters, business and professional women, the YWCA the American associatation of university women. In 1972 congress approved the ERA, by the end of the year 22 out of 35 states ratified it. 2. Describe the Supreme Court decision of Roe v Wade . (p.291-292) The supreme court decision handed down its decision on abortion in Roe v wade. Jane roe brought a federal suit claiming that the Texas criminal abortion laws unconstitutionally abridged her personal privacy by denying her right to a medically safe abortion. 3. How was the issue of rape a focus for reformers? (p.293) It was seen as a terrorism on women that limits freedom and there is a need for rape shelters and crisis centers . 4. How were feminists split in support of lesbians? (p.294) Some didn ' t want to lose support by publically supporting lesbians so they either avoided the topic or outwardly opposed it . (p304-305) They feared a loss of self and female identity. 12. Describe the views of the “new right”. (p.305) It expanded anticommunist ideas and laissez-faire economics , with a newfound control of the Republican party as a labeled as the moral majority on family , sexuality , the ERA , and abortion .
