Ricardo Maiz SCS 100 7-4: Creating a social movement 1. Which social movement did you choose, and what interests you about the movement? I chose an ecological movement. Social movements typically generate policy or cultural change, social movements for good work to generate awareness and enact change for an underserved issue or population. Nowadays, people use these movements for good things and help people damage. This movement is centered on ecology, health, and human rights because of my interest in the ecological movement. 2. How have you learned about this social movement (news articles, social media, social commentary, conversation with others, television news)? I learn about this movement through an internet search, social media, and TV news. 3. What is the “big question” or inquiry that the movement is trying to answer? The question here, how does the movement can affect worldwide and our daily lives? 4. What do you think has caused the movement to gain or lose momentum? How does this movement either directly or indirectly impact your day-to-day? Life? For example, suppose you are looking at the environmental movement. In that case, you may be directly impacted by a tax break for purchasing a new Prius or putting new energy-efficient windows in your home. Things that can cause the movement to lose momentum could be the governments do not allocate a budget for such a movement. Some people are lazy to make their voices heard and tend to stop at their first obstacle. Not enough information exposure to the public. This movement can directly affect my life in health-related issues and the environment around me, like global warming affecting how the world reacts to it.
