For module 4, we used practice experience and theory to inform specific inquiry and research. We used critical thinking to analyze the study techniques and conclusions from both quantitative and qualitative studies. To inform and enhance our practice, policy, and service delivery, we utilized and translated research evidence. I decided particularly in my field learning plan to contrast the implementation of evidence-based practices in my agency with those mentioned in my classes, and I discussed this with my field instructor. This week, I overcame a challenging circumstance and decision by using evidence-based strategies. My conflict concerned a sick child's future and well-being. Due to the mother's carelessness, this infant arrived and had a close encounter with death. The medical staff was shocked that the baby was even alive, let alone talking and not experiencing any medical issues, after ingesting various illegal narcotics. This young child was brought to a house where drugs were being used, where she ingested the drugs. This led to challenging issues we had to ask ourselves as well as an ethical conundrum. Particularly, as social workers, we are required to make difficult choices that may impact a child's future all the time. We require as many ways that have been objectively proven in order to make these decisions. We have access to a wide range of resources that give us information on topics such as child abuse, adoption, welfare, neglect, etc. Utilizing evidence- based methods enables us to benefit from a number of significant advantages. It is a practice approach that encourages us social workers to challenge our presumptions and look for fresh data. For instance, would this particular child fare better in a relative's home or the foster care system? In order to decide this child's destiny, we had to collaborate with the county CYF system. That wasn't an option because if we let the child to leave with her mother once more, the next time something similar happened, the youngster would not be as fortunate. The best choice we could have made was to remove the child from her care and provide interim custody of the child to the paternal grandparents. This enables the mother to get the support and direction she requires in order for the child to finally move back in with her. Although the entire scenario presented a challenge to myself and the team, I believe we handled it well. I noticed many strengths in my client system this week but two particularly stood out to me. First, the social work team and medical team collaborated to resolve an ethical issue with the admittance of one child. The mother thought the group wasn't providing the required level of care. The team has been working on a discharge strategy for this child for the past six months since they were admitted to the hospital. Based on his diagnosis and living circumstances at the time of discharge, there are several difficulties. Finally, with assistance from outside sources, they were able to create a secure and suitable plan for him. Within a week, the patient should be sent home. The second success I saw was the grief a family was going through after losing a
child. The family was in disarray when the youngster was initially admitted, and appropriately so. The family was unable to deal with the tragedy and digest their feelings. They have greatly improved thanks to our and the medical staff's help, and they can now even plan funeral ceremonies. I wouldn't have believed you if you had told me at the beginning of the week that they would be able to regulate their emotions this effectively. Even though they are going through a terrible period, I am confident that this family will pull through.
