Report
Response 1 to Elizabeth Ezeamaka Cultural consideration for child abuse reporting Culture is a deeply rooted phenomenon with many layers. Culture is a factor that can have a significant influence on a child's disclosure of abuse (Ettinger, 2022). Professions working with children from different cultures need to ensure they are culturally aware and provide safe practices. The child welfare system is comprised of government agencies throughout the US that aim at preventing and addressing child maltreatment, which is defined as neglect, exposure to intimate partner violence, physical abuse, and sexual abuse of a minor (Ettinger, 2022). Sometimes, one has to know the value of understanding the circumstances of children and their families from diverse cultural backgrounds. Cultural considerations need to be understood in order to gain insight into the challenges present for children during disclosures of abuse. It is also essential to explore cultural considerations within a system that represents a long history of trauma, such as Indigenous people (Ettinger, 2022). Cultural consideration for adult abuse reporting Race, culture, and ethnicity are the lenses through which we view the world and touch on aspects of human life. As practitioners, we must be more culturally aware and sensitive to diverse patients' cultural norms, beliefs, and needs to provide relevant services and interventions (Saghafi et al., 2019). How a group labels or constructs abuse or maltreatment is influenced by their cultural beliefs and values, which affect how domestic violence is perceived, exhibited, and reported (Saghafi et al., 2019). Social realities of the lives of older abused individuals may be different from those of younger individuals in regards to the result of generation, acculturation, and gender role socialization differences (Saghafi et al., 2019). These factors may determine how elder abuse victims label their situations and what services they may seek. Also, ethnic minority elder groups may be more vulnerable to violence due to existing environmental risks such as poverty, racism, oppression, and discrimination.
