Applied Sociology Reflection Draft - Part 1 Yatin Gholetar 2021020017 Yorkville University SOCI300 Mansi Handa January 28, 2024
Within the nine units of this course, various topics and readings helped a lot to increase my knowledge and experience in this new country. It also helped me with my study, job, and real- life experience in Canada. Furthermore, the three topics which I found most interesting, and which helped in real life are unit 6,,7,8. Title: Reflections on Social Inequality, Race/Ethnicity, Gender, and Social Institutions in Canada I have learned about a wide range of subjects during my studies that have improved my comprehension of Canadian society and given me insightful knowledge that I can use in my professional as well as my personal lives. The courses on Race/Ethnicity and Gender (Unit 7), Sociological Institutions: Government and Politics & Work and the Economy (Unit 8), and Social Inequality in Canada (Unit 6) have all been quite insightful (Nscc & Little, 2019) Unit 6, which focused on Social Inequality in Canada, has made me more aware of the disparities that exist within Canadian society. This knowledge has been instrumental in shaping my perspective on social justice and equity It has also influenced my approach to my work, where I strive to promote inclusivity and equal opportunities for all, regardless of their social status (Nscc & Little, 2019) I am now more conscious of the differences in Canadian society as a result of Unit 6's discussion of Social Inequality in Canada. This information has greatly influenced how I view fairness and justice for all. It has also affected how I handle my work, where I try to advocate for
equality of opportunity and compassion for all people, irrespective of their social standing (Nscc & Little, 2019). The study of gender and race/ethnicity in Unit 7 has had a similar influence. It has aided in my understanding of the complexity of identity and how it affects a person's chances and experiences. In both my personal and professional relationships with various groups of individuals, this comprehension has been quite helpful (Nscc & Little, 2019). It has improved my empathy and helped me to appreciate the distinct struggles and difficulties that people with various ethnicity, racial background, and gender origins face (Nscc & Little, 2019). Ultimately, I now have a better grasp of the institutions that control society and the economy thanks to Unit 8, which examined Social Institutions: Government and Politics & Work and the Economy (Little & Little, 2014). I've been able to use this information to better comprehend the complexities of work as well as the larger economic world, which has been really helpful in my working life (Verwiebe, 2014). In conclusion, these lessons have improved my knowledge of Canadian society and given me useful information that I can use on a daily basis. They have helped me develop an additional critical and sympathetic perspective on the world, and I am appreciative of that.
