Evaluate and Reflect on the following: A. Before Videotaping of Teacher in Charge Explain how you prepare for Teacher in Charge? Like materials, books, etc. -In order to prepare for Teacher in Charge I spent a lot of time researching different activities for my theme. I printed out several different materials that would be placed on the bulletin boards and different posters that I’d have in my classroom. I spent several weeks changing things around, making sure I had all my materials ready to go. Explain step by step how you prepare for Teacher in Charge -The first thing I did was making sure that I stayed with a theme throughout presenting my activity plans. This would make it easier for me to plan for my Teacher in Charge week. Secondly, I did a lot of research on my theme. I had 15 windows opened on my laptop searching up different activities for the different areas. Thirdly, I had to mentally prepare myself for recording myself. I always get nervous, and I had to do a little chant to myself that I had this. That I could do this because I was extremely nervous. Lastly, I think things came naturally as I just let myself flow freely without telling myself that I was recording myself. B. During The Videotaping of Teach in Charge
Explain how you greets the children and the families. What was your demeanor? -I got down to the children’s level, I made sure to say good morning to the children first and then the parents/guardians, asking how they felt before asking the parents. Explain how you were able to get the group/children’s attention? -I introduced my classroom rules, and then made sure to do a movement before introducing the children to the activity to make sure they had all their wiggles out. Were you familiar with all songs, stories, etc., what steps did you take to get familiar? -I say yes, I was familiar with the songs and stories because I had done them prior in our activity plans. For the new songs, I made sure I practiced them every night after work. Did you use the names of the group/children? Explain how or in what context? -Yes, I used the name of the children and with the teacher assistant as well. I made sure to use their names throughout the activities and by delegating to my other teacher by using her name as well, so the children knew who I was talking about. Explain how you show sensitivity to the individual needs and abilities of the group/children. -I made sure to include helping the children if they asked for help with a certain activity, I also made sure to include items that would allow the children not to get dirty if they did not want to get dirty. Explain how or what context you conduct the transitioning. Another word how you dismiss the group/children -I used songs to help transition the children from different activities. Explain how you delegate with other staff? I made sure to use my other teachers name when telling the children where they would go next and with whom. Describe how were able to maintain the attention of the group. -I made sure to include songs and movements for the children to stay interested in the activities provided. Were you Able to focus on one member/child without losing sight of the overall group? Explain and provided example.
-I think I was able to, but I am unsure of how I was able to because it all seemed to come naturally to me while doing it. Describe how you share in the individual’s excitement, enthusiasm. -I was smiling, laughing, and joining in on the fun because as a teacher, you need to enjoy what you are doing for the children to enjoy it as well. Provide three open-ended questions asked and encourages students to engage. -I asked a variety of different open-ended questions, I am not sure what they were as I’m trying to reflect on the video, but I know I asked them. Explain how you encourages problem solving. -I made sure to include problem solving where the children were able to solve it on their own and then another time where I had to get involved to help them solve their problem. How did you interact in a respectful manner with all the group members/children? -I stayed interested in what the children had to say and what they wanted to show me. I never showed a sign of being annoyed or bothered by what they were wanting to say and do. When needed, how and who you ask for assistance? -I asked Ms. Erika for help. Explain what you do during departure -We played outside, and also did a song for departure. After Videotaping and receiving feedback from Mentor What were you most pleased with? -I honestly was pleased with the entire thing. As much as I would have preferred to do this with actual children, it was a lot of fun being able to recreate some of the ideas that I had. Where did you struggle? -Not being nervous. When I get nervous I struggle to keep myself from looking around the room.

What would you change if you could do it all over again? -The lack of time I gave myself. I made it work but I would’ve started recording way sooner. How did you respond to the emergent ideas and interest of the children? -Since we didn’t have actual children, this was hard. I made sure to ask the children what they enjoyed during the day and told them that we can do it again soon. How did your curriculum consider the information you have gained from the DRDP or observations? -I think everything came naturally. I wasn’t so focused on the DRDP or the observations because I was able to combine everything in a way that felt natural. How did you support diversity in your curriculum? -I included posters of different cultures and different families. I know in my actual classroom, I would add in more culturally relevant materials and dolls in the dramatic play area, along with skin toned construction paper. How did you feel delegating duties to others? -It came out naturally, it was as if I was speaking to another person. Other thoughts? **Citations from the text(s) are optional. II. Discuss the Mentor’s application rating form and comments regarding your presentation, demonstration. Be sure to refer to each area from the form and explain the points received.
-It was nice to see that compared to my activity lesson plans, I had made great improvement on several things and that alone made me excited. I know that with the instructional support, I needed to add in a few more things and go over bigger words for the children so they would have a better understanding. III. Identify your Strengths and areas to Improve: I’m not sure of my strengths but I know where to improve is when it comes down to reading a book that has a bigger vocabulary that the children are not used to. IV. Based on your evaluation and reflection of your presentation, demonstration, the feedback from your mentor, what two (2) goals can you set for yourself? 1. Break down and reflect on bigger words for the children that they may not know or understand. 2. Be more confident in my teaching skills.
