SOC 112 Module Eight Worksheet Your Sociological Lens Read the article titled “Understanding the Sociological Perspective: How Sociologists See the World” and watch the video How Does Social Change Happen? Then reflect on the course material by answering the following questions in complete sentences (1–3 sentences per question). You will need to support your answers with at least one scholarly source. Your responses will be graded using the Module Eight Worksheet Rubric. To complete this worksheet, replace the bracketed text with the relevant information. Questions Your Answers 1. Describe how you can use your newly developed sociological perspective in your everyday life. The core of the sociological perspective is that society is a social product, and as such, its institutions and structures are modifiable (Cole, 2020). This is what the sociological imagination emphasizes. Our decisions and deeds have an impact on the social structures and forces that shape our lives. Our actions either validate society or put it under pressure to get better as we go about our daily lives. We can see how both scenarios are feasible from a sociological vantage point (Cole, 2020). 2. What aspects of sociology can be helpful to you in your personal life? When people look at the world in this way, they may see how their own histories and present-day experiences fit into the course of history (Cole, 2020). We could investigate how societal structures, pressures, and interactions have granted us particular benefits, like having access to wealth and elite educational institutions, by applying the sociological imagination to our own lives. We may also think about how social issues like racism might make us less favored than others (Cole, 2020). 3. What aspects of sociology can be helpful to you in your professional life? In addition, sociology can help us develop the skills necessary for success in business and public life, such as analytical thinking and problem-solving, information gathering and interpretation, and report writing, by examining particular societal sectors (Why Study Sociology, 2020). 4. How can a deeper understanding of human interaction be helpful in the real world? People can create coping mechanisms and methods to handle challenging circumstances by learning why people act in particular ways. In general, a greater comprehension of human interaction can aid people in navigating social circumstances, forging stronger bonds with others, and attaining better mental health results.
