SOC 112 Module Four Worksheet Wealth Inequality in America Watch the video Wealth Inequality in America (the captioned video is available at Wealth Inequality in America CC ). Then read the article “Income Inequality in America: Understanding Wealth Inequality, Its Causes, and Solutions” (in Module Four Resources). Finally, answer the following questions in complete sentences (1–3 sentences per question). You will need to support your answers with at least one scholarly source. Your responses will be graded using the Module Four Worksheet Rubric. To complete this worksheet, replace the bracketed text with the relevant information. Questions Your Answers 1. Describe your initial reaction to the concepts in this video. My first reaction to the video was that the distribution in America is insane. I never looked at it the way the video put it into perspective (SNHU A11y Remediated Videos, 2016). 2. Did any of the information in the video surprise you? Why or why not? The top 1% not fitting in the videos chart goes to show how much the 1% have. Those 1% have 40 % of the wealth in America. Also, the top 1% own about 50% of all stocks, bonds, and mutual funds (SNHU A11y Remediated Videos, 2016). I wasn't surprised by the information in the video because the government continuously raises taxes on the poor while hardly taxing the rich, giving the wealthy priority over the poor. 3. Discuss how a person’s social class (also referred to as socioeconomic status) can affect his or her chances of success. If a person is born into a low-income or middle-class family, their socioeconomic position may have an impact on their prospects of success. To obtain half the accomplishment a wealthy person has already attained, they will need to work 10 times as hard as someone who was born into a wealthy household. To obtain a degree, this person will be required to take out student loans, and upon graduation, they will be saddled with a substantial debt that they must settle with the government. Even after graduating from college and landing a job with a respectable salary, a person may still find it difficult to make ends meet.
