Black Empowerment 3 Takeaways - African Americans developed ways to address their needs and aspirations that fostered values of community, service, and mutual support. - African Americans worked collectively to survive and thrive in the middle of racial oppression. - Black men and women created ways to serve and strengthen their communities. Compare and contrast the different strategies employed to achieve black empowerment and equality in pre-WWII modern America. Black Power began as revolutionary movement in the 1960s and 1970s. It emphasized racial pride, economic empowerment. During this time there was a rice in demand for Black history courses to embrace African culture. The fight against fascism during World War II brought to the forefront the contradictions between America’s ideals of democracy and equality and its treatment of racial minorities.
