Co-Teaching Quiz 1. In your own words, what is co-teaching? What types of students does co-teaching target for service? Why? (1pt) Co-teaching is when two qualified educators work together to provide instruction to one class of students. Many times co-teachers are one general education teacher and one special education teacher. Co-teaching serves students with special needs and those without and it allows students with special needs to stay in a general education setting. (p. 159) 2. Why do many teachers find one-teach one-assist ineffective? List two cons of using the model. (3pts) The one-teach one assistc strategy can be ineffective because one teacher is in charge while the other is serving as only an assistant. Two cons are that one teacher moving around constantly can be distracting. Also students who crave attention are more likely to ask for help even though they can work independently. (p. 171 and 172) 3. Dividing the class into four small groups that work simultaneously on different activities is an example of which model? When might this model be most effective? (2pts) Station teaching- It is most effictive when teachers teach different concepts that are not sequential. (p. 167) 4. One teacher working with a small group is an example of what model? When might this model be most effective? (2pts) Alternative teaching. This model is most effective for students who need small group attention such as students with ADHD, students who are learning the language, and students who need reassurance. (p. 169) 5. Dividing the class in half and teaching the same lesson to both groups is an example of what model? When might this model be most helpful. (2pts) Parallel teaching.
