City of Manchester Office of the City Clerk One City Hall Plaza Manchester, NH 03101 603-624-6455 https://www.manchesternh.gov/Government/Mayor-and-Aldermen This assignment was quite informative for me since I had no prior knowledge of a number of the options that are offered within my local community.  I currently reside in the city of Manchester, New Hampshire. It did not come as a surprise to me that I was able to locate
3 COMMUNITY RESOURCES many of these resources, that I believe would be helpful in the situations given for the assignment, in such a short amount of time. By searching online, and calling these resources individually, I was able to obtain a lot of information that could be beneficial to many individuals within my local community. In doing the research for this assignment within my local community, I felt like the majority of the task went well. By putting in the extra effort to contact each of the resources I found, I was able to gain additional knowledge and ensure that they were the right fit for the scenarios given in this assignment. In addition, I was able to gain insight when speaking with these resources, about the different services they provide, which may be beneficial for the clients I work with within my local community down the road. In speaking with these establishments, everyone was kind and welcoming. They all appeared to be happy to give me the information I was looking for and were not upset when I explained that I needed this information for an assignment on our local resources. It was nice to see that people within my community are excited and happy to share their stories, no matter the reason behind gaining the information. The most difficult aspect of the assignment was choosing the most relevant information from the wealth of information I received from online sources. For example, it was difficult to find information on BIPOC providers' specialized areas, and because there were various results, it required some time to put together the information that was found. Finding a provider who was physically present in the city, and who operated out of a local office as opposed to using telehealth was another difficulty. Even though telehealth has many potential advantages, some patients prefer to see their doctor in person and have face-to-face conversations. Due to this, I wanted to ensure that the resource I chose for the assignment was someone that held their sessions within my local community.

4 COMMUNITY RESOURCES While searching for resources within my local community, there was something that took me by surprise. The most shocking aspect of my search was the sheer number of services and providers of various types that are available in my local community. Before receiving this task, I had never needed to locate any of the listed resources.   Because of this project, I was able to get an appreciation for how challenging it can be to sift through a large amount of data in order to locate a certain resource. Additionally, I was happily surprised at how easy it was for me to find the wide variety of resources and how close they are together within the city. If a person has access to the internet, it should not be too difficult for them to locate the listed services. Even though people can use the internet for free at their local libraries, it may be difficult for some people to receive the information they need if they do not have access to the internet or the time and ability to get to the local library. Within the city of Manchester, public transportation is readily available and relatively easy to identify and utilize. All of the resources chosen for this assignment were within the city. All resources were at most, eight minutes from my home, and one was even two minutes away. If I were to choose the resource that is farthest from my home, that would be Dr. Lisa DiBrigdia from Amoskeag Health on Elm Street. When using public transportation, the following directions would be utilized to get to the health office: Public Transportation Directions: 1. Walk about two minutes from Laurel Street to Hanover Street 2. Get onto the bus at the Hanover and Kenney Bus Stop 3. Get off of the bus at the Elm St & Prospect Bus Stop 4. Walk, about 3 minutes to the location at 1245 Elm Street, Manchester NH. Total Travel Time (not including bus stops): 13 Minutes.
5 COMMUNITY RESOURCES Total Travel Time (With Stops): About 25 minutes In addition to taking the bus, the health center is within a distance that could be walked. If someone was going from Laurel street to 1245 Elm Street, it would be a 35-minute walk. With the understanding that not everyone lives on Laurel Street, even if someone were traveling from the outskirts of the city, the walk would still be under an hour. With this in mind, and using Laurel street as an example, a person can travel to the health center in 35 minutes by walking, 25 minutes by public transportation, or 8 minutes by driving themselves. Therefore, the fastest way to the health center would be for an individual to drive themselves, however, not everyone has the means of their own transportation. If someone were to walk or take the bus, there are some things to keep in mind. For example, if it was wintertime, the temperatures might be below freezing. If it is summer, the temperature could be very hot, with the humidity causing this to be worse. These temperatures could make walking, even the short distances to and from the bus stop, very difficult. Additionally, safety is always a concern. Although the office is located in a generally safe neighborhood of Manchester, it is strongly advised that clients always have a heightened awareness of both themselves and their immediate surroundings. Overall, I found this assignment to be very interesting and informative. I was able to gain knowledge that I did not previously have and could be beneficial to clients I may encounter in the future. Being a professional within the social work field, it is always good to have information regarding resources within the local community. This assignment supplied me with the information I needed to be more knowledgeable about my community and what it can offer. References Amoskeag Health . Amoskeag Health Home Comments. (n.d.).
