Status 1 Status 2 Status 3 1. Describe three statuses that you occupy in society. Christian Male Student 2. Identify whether each status is ascribed or achieved. It was achieved through following Jesus Christ. Was ascribed at birth. It was achieved through getting into college and working hard. 3. Explain what the role expectations are for each status. I am expected to represent Jesus Christ. I am expected to be strong, physically and emotionally I am expected to be in school working on school work. 4. Provide one example of role conflict. Following Christ can be difficult as you have to give up worldly things that make you weak. As a male society expects that I am strong physically and emotionally. Sometimes I am not. Depression from the workload can make it very difficult to want to continue working on school and at a job. 5. Provide one example of role strain. It can be difficult to represent Christ as humans since we have our flesh, we eventually make mistakes. It can take a great amount of effort to be both strong physically and emotionally/ mentally. Some days seem too much to carry. Being a student can be difficult, especially working full time in school and at a job. It can definitely cause stress and depression. 6. Provide one example of a status that might be subject to social inequalities. Following Jesus Christ can cause social inequality. I’ve had to give up a lot, friends, family, worldly possessions. I’ve had to leave huge friend groups because they influenced me negatively. I’ve had to stop talking to family because of the same thing. It can be very difficult. It is something most people probably will never have to go through. Men are definitely treated worse. Since society thinks men are strong and can handle anything they are treated way worse than anybody else. You can say and do whatever you want to men because they are strong enough to handle it. But that is not always the case. Suicide rates are quite high and it seems like nobody even cares. Being a student is similar. One might assume a student can survive a massive workload. But it eventually gets to the student. The work I have from school, my job, and normal life stuff all together seems way too heavy. This kind of thing easily causes depression.
