Special Education Natalia Wolak
Why I Selected Special Education In the third-grade classroom I was placed in, about a third of the students were special ed Students were being pulled out of the classroom during subjects they struggled in; every ten minutes a new student would be pulled Another child in the class has autism and ADHD It was also clear that being out of the classroom for a year has affected the children's cognitive and social development significantly I find this interesting to see firsthand and wonder how it will impact special education in the future
History Throughout time, people who showed any type of abnormalities were shunned People with special needs were often institutionalized because their parents did not know how to deal with their disabilities As time progressed, more laws and regulations were put in place to protect all people with special needs

"Special education means specially designed instruction, at no cost to the parents, to meet the unique needs of a child with a disability"
Connection Between Trend and Learning Environment Based on research, it is common for teachers to become attached to their students in some way They spend most of their days with their students, experiencing a fraction of what families at home have to deal with This allows teachers to empathies with families and understand some of the struggles they have Similar to the families, most teachers are not provided emotional support ; the job can be straining on one's mental health and it's important that everyone in the situation is taken care of in some way
Connection Between Trend and Learning Environment Special educators are put through certain trainings to be able to properly do their jobs This allows teachers to get insight on what their students may be going through as well as the struggles they may be facing This helps me understand the learning environment because I am aware of the strain being an educator has I am also able to understand what work and training has to be put in, in order to be successful and have a positive impact on students

Conclusion From researching special education and being able to observe a classroom where it is highly present, I have learned a lot. Through research, I have learned how teachers are affected by their job. Although Mrs. Hoggard (my placement teacher) is not a special ed teacher, she still takes on a part of the role. She is able to accommodate on the spot for her students, and that is truly admirable. As the world is constantly changing around me, it is difficult to predict what situation I may be in. Learning from real life experiences and research now is able to prepare me for the unknown that may come in my future career.
