Supervising and Coaching Special Education Teachers Shontrell Hughes Grand Canyon University EAD – 530 Professor Rundhaug February 14, 2024
Lesson Objective(s) and Students Before an observer conference, it's important that the participants are aware of the various aspects of the classroom setting. This includes the type of lesson that will be taught, the environment, and the teacher's needs. Before the start of the class, it's important that the teacher provides the necessary information about the intended learning outcomes. This should include the target and objective of the program. It's also important to ensure there will be one learning objective and the related information. One of the most important factors the teacher should consider is the number of learning targets achieved in a single lesson. Before the start of the session, I'll ask about the teacher's intention to measure the learners' mastery of the concept. I'll assume the teacher will estimate how many tasks the students will complete. To increase engagement, I would suggest including hands-on activities. Moreover, there must be opportunities for student participation. When making plans, the teacher should consider the various data points collected during the assessment process. This data should be used to guide the planning process and ensure that the students are getting the most out of the learning objectives. In addition, the teacher should also provide details about the students' activities and assignments. In the context of the lesson, I would ask the paraprofessionals and teachers what they will be doing. In special education, the students are divided into small groups. I would ask the teacher how she determines which groups will be used based on the goals and IEPs of the students. Differentiation
It is important that teachers provide the necessary differentiation to meet their students' varying needs. (Lawson & Knollman, 2017). This can be done through various strategies and methods. During the pre-conference, it is also important that parents and teachers are aware of the various initiatives being implemented to address their students' needs. In addition, it is also important that teachers provide the necessary differentiation to meet their students' varying needs. They should explain how they determine which activities are appropriate for each student and how they will manage the behavior of their learners. In addition, it's important that teachers have the appropriate number of activities and strategies that will accommodate the varying learning styles of their pupils. They should also talk about what kinds of activities will be utilized during the course. Struggling Students It is very important that effective teachers can anticipate the possible struggles that their students might have during a lesson. (Brogues & Rodriguez-Dorta, 2015). This can be done by asking a couple of questions: What kinds of challenges would you expect your students to face during the lesson? and how did you plan on addressing these issues? This can be addressed by having various strategies that can be used to reinforce the lesson's content and explain it in a different manner. Having visual checklists or directions can also help pupils follow the lesson plan. Prior Knowledge Teachers should be able to assess their students' prior knowledge before teaching new lessons. Some questions that teachers should ask are: How important is it for them to determine

the students' prior knowledge before a lesson? According to the 2015 work of Harrbour, Sweigart, and Hughes, assessing students' prior knowledge can help teachers plan their lessons and address any learning deficits. It can also improve student learning by helping them develop new meaning by connecting concepts to their existing knowledge. Classroom Management Procedures and classroom management are crucial to creating an effective learning environment and delivering high-quality instruction. As a principal, you must understand the teacher's discipline plan. During a pre-conference discussion, you can ask about the behavior management plan that the teacher has established. When discussing the discipline plan, the teacher should first respond to an inquiry about a student who is off-task or disrupting the other students' learning. They should then explain the various procedures that are included in the plan. It is important that the students understand the procedures so that they can follow them. The teacher should demonstrate that they can address these problems without disrupting the class or taking too much time away from the other learners. References Borges, Á., & Rodríguez-Dorta, M.
