Topic 5 DQ 1 In what scenarios would small group activities not be the most productive instructional strategy for teaching social studies or the arts? Small groups are essential in social studies because they provide students practice using a variety of sources collectively, listening to one another, and cooperating to make sense of the subject matter. Encouraging students to participate in meaningful group learning through small group education can be difficult to manage; careful preparation, clear instructions, student mentoring, and support are all necessary. When students participate in activities like document discovery and open-ended discussion of historical materials, this can be beneficial. While small group work is appropriate in many educational contexts, there are some projects that would not yield positive results in this environment. For example, when writing a strong essay regarding your constitutional rights and defenses against violations of them. Since every student is different and we value their distinctions, you should finish this assignment by yourself. As such, it is our responsibility to work for social justice in the classroom (Teaching Works, n.d.). Students may have disagreements because this is a very personal topic. Letting them handle this on their own is the best course of action. Teaching Works (n.d.).
