Task 1 has 7 descriptive answer questions and task 2 is a brief self-reflection activity. You may use examples from personal and/or social experiences as relevant to the questions. Task 1 – Questions Question 1 a. Explain how you can self-reflect on your own social practices and beliefs on working with culturally diverse people. The sociocultural system has activated my conscious experience since the day I was born. As an adult, I can no longer tell where my cultural awareness comes from, perhaps from my family, perhaps from the community, perhaps from school, or from my reading, and may come from people from all walks of life who deal with in the workplace. In any case, experiences from the past have inadvertently become beliefs that guide decisions in one's real life. How can I become aware of the cultural factors behind my beliefs? First of all, I can be sure that conscious awareness is a process of reflection. Secondly, I can be sure that reflection is a process of psychotherapy. Finally, I choose the self-healing path: listening to my life story, looking for the footprints of my past life, and using systematic thinking mode and contemporary humanities to do qualitative analysis. I believe that this is the subject of my lifelong learning. b. What would you do to improve on your ability to enhance social awareness and understanding of different cultures? To do this, I am looking for clues between my past and present beliefs in the following areas: 1) Communicate with different groups of people and have gained awareness of cultural differences; 2) Visit the countries and regions where you once lived through tourism; 3) Keep in touch with the family of origin and listen to their stories; 4) Expanding real-life activities to refine empathy. Question 2. List and briefly explain two (2) benefits you see for a practice when it understands that a ‘culturally’ appropriate workplace is beneficial to its success.
2 LA020345 Assignment CHCDIV001 Ed 5 © New South Wales Technical and Further Education Commission, 2015 (TAFE NSW – WSI), Archive version 2, January 2016 Why do I reflect on my cultural background? Because human society is a group composed of different individuals, the division of labor and cooperation in human society means that people from different cultural backgrounds cooperate to meet the different needs of different human beings. Its advantages: 1) It is precise because the collaborators have different life experiences, individuals will learn from others what they do not have. 2) In the process of mutual learning, stimulate the team to come up with new ideas to create services that are more suitable for human needs. Question 3 a. Briefly explain why it is important to employ work practices that create a workplace environment that is conducive and safe for all. In a multicultural team, the reason why innovation is important to the industry is that the diverse human experience avoids the tendency of self-limiting in our practice activities, and avoids stubborn narrow beliefs that lead to ineffective service and interpersonal relationships conflict. b. How does being ‘culturally competent’ impact on the success of workplace practices? The ability to understand different cultures makes it easier for oneself to accept and respect the expressions of collaborators with different cultural backgrounds in the team, so as to improve their listening effect and empathize with them. Find the best way to resolve the dilemma in managing interpersonal conflict. Question 4 .When reviewing or modifying work practices it needs to completed in consultation with others. a. Explain how a practice consults with and involves others from diverse cultural backgrounds. Working with others from different cultural backgrounds, first realize the social prejudice of your own cultural background against others and warn yourself not to fall into misunderstanding. Then, find the right way to communicate during the communication process. b. When communicating changes to workplace practices what do you do ensure the communication used shows respect for the cultural diversity of others, for example: co-workers, clients, family. How to find the appropriate communication style to interact with others with cultural differences? On the one hand, it is convenient to pay attention to listening, and on the other hand, it is flexible to express. There are many listening skills, as long as you follow the rhythm of others, you can always gain an understanding of others; there are many ways of expression, as long as you are patient, you can say what others understand.
